DiskView Menu

DiskView Pull Down Menu: Click the DiskView button on the left side of the DiskView Visualizer Toolbar to display a menu containing links to DiskView Online Help, DiskView Options pane to configure various aspects of DiskView (including this toolbar!), DiskView Analyzer to launch a scan of your files and folders, the DiskView Registration dialog to enter your license key and register DiskView, and other handy links within the DiskView website

Chart Type Selection Tools

Drop-down list for selecting chart type: The drop-down list for selecting chart types allows selecting the chart type to be displayed in the DiskView Visualizer. This drop-down list is not shown by default, and can be enabled by checking the "Drop-down for selecting chart type" option in the Toolbar pane of DiskView Options dialog.

Pie chart toggle button : The Pie chart toggle button can be used to set the visualization mode of DiskView Visualizer to Pie chart. When selected, DiskView Visualizer will show a Pie chart representation of the current folder, with files and folders representing its pies. Only one among the Pie and Bar toggle buttons is active at a time, corresponding to the visualization mode.

Bar chart toggle button : The Bar chart toggle button can be used to set the visualization mode of DiskView Visualization to Bar chart. When selected, DiskView Visualizer will show horizontal bars representing files and folders. The length of the bars is proportional to the size of the corresponding file or folder.

Reporting and Output Tools

The reporting and output tools enable disk usage reports to be printed, saved to various graphic formats, or exported to the clipboard. Tools in this category can be enabled or disabled using the "Chart output to disk, clipboard or printer" option in the Toolbar pane of DiskView Options dialog.

Save button : The Save button can be used to save the disk space usage report for the current folder to PNG, JPEG or BMP formats. On Windows 2000 systems, where GDI+ is not available, only BMP option is available. To enable saving the disk usage report to other formats, refer to the DiskView FAQ mentioning the workaround of placing GDI+ dll in the system path.

Copy to Clipboard button : The Copy to clipboard button copies the disk space usage report for the current folder to the clipboard as a Windows Bitmap (BMP). You can then paste the disk space usage report in any application that accepts BMP format images, including most Microsoft Office applications.

Print button : The Print button enables printing the disk space usage report for the current folder. It launches a Print dialog where you can select printer and configure Print options before starting the print job. You can configure custom headers and footers for the DiskView disk usage reports using the Reporting tab of the DiskView Options dialog.

Chart Appearance Tools

The chart appearance tools modify various visual aspects of disk space usage reports. Tools in this category can be enabled or disabled using the "Tools for modifying chart appearance " option in the Toolbar pane of DiskView Options dialog.

Sort files and folders by Size

Sort by Size toggle button : The Sort by Size toggle button makes the files and folders displayed by the DiskView Visualizer be sorted based on their size. Big files and folders are listed first in the Bar chart visualization mode, followed by smaller files and folders based upon their size on disk, i.e. actual disk space usage. In the Pie chart visualization mode of DiskView, pies get arranged clockwise based upon the file and folder sizes when this sort option is selected.

Sort by Name toggle button : The Sort by Name toggle button allows for alphabetical sorting of the files and folders in the DiskView Visualizer. Only one among the "Sort by Size" and "Sort by Name" toggle buttons can be active at a time. The sort order for the DiskView Visualizer is independent of the sort order chosen in the DiskView Folders pane.

I'm feeling colorful

Randomize color button : The 'Randomize Color' button is a fun function, that changes the color palette used by the DiskView Visualizer. On clicking this button, the disk space usage chart gets drawn with a new set of randomly chosen colors. Use it when 'you're feeling colorful!'.

Zoom-In button : DiskView disk usage pie-charts are high precision, anti-aliased textured charts with smooth fonts, radiant colors, and sharp edges that do not appear jagged or fuzzy when zoomed into. Use the Zoom-In button to enlarge the currently displayed chart and get high-resolution and larger sized pie-charts. This function is particularly helpful when you want to generate reports for Powerpoint slides, web or printing.

Zoom-out button : The 'Zoom-Out' button makes the pie chart smaller in appearance. It should also be noted that the size of the pie chart auto-zooms on resizing the DiskView Visualizer and on traversing to another folder.

DiskView Summary View

Summary view button : The 'Summary View' button toggles the display of the Summary View that appears on the right side of the pie chart. The summary view shows the current disk space usage for all local drives, and a graphical view of the disk space usage of the current folder with respect to the total occupied space on the disk and the disk capacity. For a detailed explanation of what the bars in the summary view show, refer to the DiskView FAQ.
